February 5, 2024 witnessed guest lecture #02 under the theme, “Role of Language in Social Reconciliation” with award winning writer and senior lecturer Dr. Madhubhashini Disanayaka Ratnayake.
Having started with a theoretical linguistic approach, she emphasized the impact of language on gender, class and ethnic relations. Also, certain works were cited from world literature as examples for the role of language in peace-building process. Moreover, participants from a wide range of sectors raised questions and shared their experiences on language and social harmony.
The session was moderated by Prof. Neranji Wijewardhana, director of SRC and coordinated by R. Pasindu Pabasara, volunteer research assistant of SRC.
